Justice Ayah Paul: Last Honours For Judiciary Icon

The former Advocate General of the Supreme Court will be remembered for his advocacy and dedication to justice and the rule of law.
The judiciary has paid glowing tributes to the late Justice Ayah Paul Abine, a renowned jurist and astute professional who left an indelible mark on the country’s legal and political landscapes. During the judicial honours which held in a solemn session at the courtroom of the Buea Appeal Court on Friday. February 14, 2025, Barristers Akere Muna and Michelle Ndoki, were among those who stood guard around the coffin of the late legal heavyweight. In an eulogy, the President of the Cameroon Bar Association, Barrister Mbah Eric, described Justice Ayah as a “giant” of the judiciary, whose commitment to upholding the law was unwavering. “He was a straight shooter, who loved justice and tried his best to deliver it,” Barrister Mbah said, recalling his own encounters with Justice Ayah. “He taught us that the lawyer’s tool was his English, that the lawyer’s chambers was his workroom, and that the court was the lawyer’s showroom.” Former Bar President, Barrister Eta Besong, colleague and friend of Justice Ayah, also shared fond memories of their time together, especially his radical thinking, intelligence, and helpfulness during their time at ENAM in 1976. “He was a true leader and a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated public servant,” Barrister Besong said.
