Senate : Seventeen-man Bureau Elected

Through a democratic process, Senators of four different political parties were elected into the permanent bureau of the House on March 18, 2025.
The permanent bureau of the Senate for the current legislative year has been elected. The bureau that consist members of four different political parties was elected during a plenary sitting of March 18, 2025. The bureau takes over from the provisional bureau that was chaired by the eldest member of the Senate, René Ze Nguele. The 17-man bureau comprises a President, a Senior Vice President, four Vice Presidents, three Questors and eight Secretaries.
The election began with the position of President of the Senate. The lone candidate for the position came from the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) proposed by the new Chief Whip of the party in the House, Senator Badel Ndanga Ndinga. For the position, there were a total of 90 ballots and Marcel Niat Njifenji recorded 87 valid votes cast in his favour. There were three blank ballots. The eldest member of the Senate supervised the voting of the Senate President and in accordance with Article 15(3) of the Standing Orders of the House, the elected President chaired the voting of the other members of the bureau. Taking the stage, he made an appreciation speech in which he thanked his colleagues and promised to work closely with them as has been the case in the previous years. He added that he received his election with joy and it is with such enthusiasm that he will plot the affairs of the bureau.
In accordance with Article 16 of the Standing Orders of the Senate, the First Vice President was voted after the Senate President position. Aboubakary Abdoulaye was voted into the position.
