Buea: Diocese Clocks 75 Years

The first Roman Catholic Diocese in Cameroon, the Diocese of Buea, on May 7, 2025, marked 75 years of its existence. The celebration culminated with a pontifical high mass at the Divine Mercy Co-cathedral in Molyko Buea. The Mass was said by the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Grace Avelino José Bettencourt. In attendance was South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, who represented the Head of State. The Bishops of Cameroon were also present including the priests and Christians of the Diocese of Buea. The theme of the celebration was perched on: “Proclaim the good news. I am with you always.” In his homily, the religious paid homage to early Bishops, priests, catechists and Christians who laid a solid foundation of the gospel in the Diocese of Buea. It later on spread to the entire Cameroon. He told the lay faithful that they should remain united with their pastor, His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea.
