SDF : Thirty-five Years Of Enhancing Democracy

Each basic organ of the party across the national territory will articulate their activities to commemorate its 35th anniversary.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) today May 26, 2025 commemorates its 35 years of existence. Launched in Bamenda, North West Region on May 26, 1990, the party contributes in advancing the democratic process of Cameroon. The party held its Constitutive Assembly on February 3, 1991 and elected its National Executive Committee (NEC). Since its creation, the party has participated in four Presidential elections (1992, 2004, 2011 and 2018), five legislative elections, three Senatorial elections and several municipal elections. The party boycotted the maiden regional elections of December 2020, adding to its boycott history of the 1992 legislative elections and the 1997 Presidential election. However, the SDF is represented in the current bureau of the National Assembly and Senate. 
In the 35 years of existence of the party, it has had two National Chairmen. The first was one of its founding fathers, the late John Fru Ndi who died in June 2023. A convention was organised in October of the same year and Joshua Osih elected for a five-year mandate after recording 985 votes in his favour, out of the 1,565 valid votes cast for the three candidates that were contesting.
