Regional, Local Administration : 466 NASLA Graduates Ready To Serve

The first batch of the National School of Local Administration received their end-of-course diplomas on May 27, 2025 in Buea during a solemn graduation ceremony chaired by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam.
The 2023-2025 batch of students of the National School of Local Administration (NASLA) have concluded their two-year training programme. The pioneer batch of graduates constitute 200 trainees in Cycle “A”, 201 for Cycle “B” and 65 for Cycle “C” trained in two main fields; Administration and Management of Social Policies and Economic and Management of Local Finance.
While addressing the 466 graduates and thousands of guests at the Bongo Square ceremonial ground, the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam assured the graduates of government’s efforts to guarantee their employability. Mr Elanga Obam, in the presence of South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai and other dignitaries, revealed that reforms are underway which will address the regulatory framework for the management of staff of Regional and Local Authorities (RLAs). “A decree is being finalized to structure employment conditions, define career path and make recruitment more secured,” he said.
Minister Elanga Ebam therefore urged the graduates to be worthy of the trust, be a driving force, a reference to their colleagues and a bench mark to the public as decentralized entities are seemingly looking for trained human resources. “Go out to the local areas of this country to serve and not to be served,” he told the graduates while adding that “The NASLA label is what the Regional and Local Authorities have been waiting to transform their services.
To the local elected officials, some of whom were present at the event, the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development enjoined them to capitalize on the exceptional potentials of the young NASLA graduates whom he described as “strategic assets” trained to enhance their teams and improve planning and financial management, and citizen participation. “I therefore encourage you to open your doors to permanent employment,” he opined while hailing NASLA management for commitment and discipline, leading to the introduction of digi...
