International Organisation For Mediation : Cameroon Signs Convention On Establishment

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella signed the document on behalf of the Head of State on May 30, 2025 in China.


The Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella on behalf of the President of the Repuiblic, signed the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) on May 30, 2025 in China. This was during a high-level meeting that brought together representatives of over 80 countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, as well as the United Nations and about 20 international organisations.   
The International Organisation for Mediation is the first intergovernmental international legal organisation dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation, especially through the use of dialogue. It has its headquarters in Hong Kong, China. The choice of China is justified by its robust, efficient and well-respected legal system which is supported by world-class legal and dispute resolution professionals who are well-versed in international rules and practices.
According to the Chief Executive, John Lee, the institution also reflects the shared confidence by stakeholders in mediation as a peaceful means to maintaining international peace and security, as stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations.  “The IOMed will provide a pathway for countries regardless of culture, language and legal system to resolve international disputes based on mutual respect and understanding.
