Cameroon’s 53rd National Day: Fraternal Celebrations In New Delhi

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i of Cameroon’s High Commission in India, Sylvie-Michele Mpon chaired the event on May 29, 2025.

Following the opening of Cameroon’s High Commission in India last year, the 53rd National Day celebrations experienced an added impetus in the country. The maiden celebrations at the diplomatic mission on May 29, 2025 were convivial and brought together several personalities. It was chaired by the Chargé d’Affaires at Cameroon’s High Commission in New Delhi, Sylvie Michele Mpon who also used the event to condemn the terrorist attack experienced by India on March 22, 2025 in Pahalgam. On behalf of the government of Cameroon, she condemned the barbaric act and extended condolences to the families of the victims. The Minister Plenipotentiary also presented the history of Cameroon, tracing from the colonial period to present day reunification context, established since 1972, hence the 53rd edition of the National Day. SylvieMichele Mpon added that this day is celebrated with the guiding principles of peace, unity, work, progress and living together; as incarnated by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya. Highlighting on the theme of this year’s edition, “Army And Nation, United For A Cameroon Turned Towards Peace And Prosperity,” she said it is a constant reminder and call by the President of the Republic, to the values of unity, cohesion, collective responsibility to the development of the nation, synergy between the defence and security officers and the population, as well as the spirit of patriotism.
