Ethiopia : UN Food Systems Summit Ongoing

Participants for three days are expected to showcase country-level transformation and address challenges faced in conflict-affected settings.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, alongside several Heads of State and Government have started the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), with a symbolic tree planting ceremony in Addis Ababa, under Ethiopia’s flagship Green Legacy initiative. This year’s high-level Summit holding under the theme “Accelerating Food Systems Transformation for a More Sustainable and Inclusive Future,” is aimed at assessing the progress made since 2021, reinforce the critical link between reforestation, climate resilience, and sustainable food systems.
Since Sunday, participants have been focusing on; documenting progress and lessons learned, including on how Member States define their food systems transformation goals, what has been accomplished, and what challenges remain; Strengthening accountability mechanisms to track progress and identify missing elements; and unlocking investments, including opportunities for scaling solutions, creating enabling environments, and leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) to support transformation at scale are the three objectives participants are focusing-on.
