Top stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Richard Mofe Damijo, Ini Edo, Rita Dominic, and Ramsey Nouah are acquiring significant earnings from film roles, endorsements, and business ventures. The creative sector, particularly the film industry (Nollywood), the world's third-largest, has a profound impact on Nigeria's economy. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), these industries contribute substantially to the nation's GDP and have vast potential for further growth with enhanced copyright protection. In 2022, Nollywood contributed 0.1 per cent to Nigeria's GDP, with expectations of increased contribution in the future.
The entertainment industry is a significant employment hub, providing jobs for over a million people directly and indirectly, making it Nigeria's second-largest employer after agriculture. The industry's economic influence is substantial, with projections indicating it will reach $14.82 billion in revenue this year.
