Water and Energy Minister was at the Senate recently to answer questions pertaining to the water project in the nation’s capital
Water and Energy Minister, Basil Atangana Kouna has reassured Senators that the water crisis in the capital city, Yaounde, will soon be a thing of the past. He was speaking while responding to a question from Senator Pierre Flambeau Ngayap during a Question and Answer plenary sitting of the Senate chaired by Marcel Niat Njifenji in the presence of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali.
Minister Atangana Kouna admitted delays in the execution of the water extension project which Senator Ngayap said was previewed for six months but which has taken more than two years. In fact the project dateline has not been respected while Yaounde city inhabitants still go without the precious liquid. According to the Minister, what was to be a short term project with the objective to improve water supply in the city with some 100,000m3 took a different dimension due to technical reasons. The contractor was changed and it took another 11 months for a new contract to be awarded. He however explained that the project that started in May 2014 and was momentarily halted is now nearing completion.
