United States : Kagame, Tshisekedi Sign Peace Deal

Thursday’s landmark event is aimed at ending decades of conflict, foster economic cooperation, and build a foundation for lasting peace.

Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo have endorsed a peace agreement in Washington in the presence of the United States President, Donald Trump who described the deal as “historic”. The final document validated on Thursday, December 4, 2025, outlines three essential objectives: ending violence in the east, restoring the DRC’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and dismantling illicit mineral supply chains that finance war. The Washington agreement which is a commitment to the June 27, 2025 accords, has been lagging implementation with only 19 of 30 identified tasks initiated and “minimal” progress on halting hostilities. 
Beyond security, Kigali and Kinshasa formally signed the Regional Economic Integration Framework to strengthen bilateral cooperation and transform peace dividends into tangible development. The ground breaking bilateral initiative unlocks the vast economic potential of the Great Lakes region and creates several opportunities for the population in the region.
