Cyber Citizenship : Youths To Build Safer Communities

The call was made by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications to students of the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC) yesterday, December 9, 2025.
In an era where digital technologies are increasingly intertwined with daily life, the significance of responsible cyber citizenship cannot be overstated. As the government navigates the complexities of the digital landscape, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom li Likeng, emphasises the imperative for every Cameroonian to cultivate a culture of responsible digital engagement. This entails fostering a safe, inclusive, and informed online environment for all. The Minister delivered these remarks on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC), during the inaugural General Assembly of the 5th edition of the Lex and Imperium Club activities, hosted by the Faculty of Law and Political Science.
The event themed, "Cyber citizenship: How Social Networks are Redefining Political Engagement," sought to enhance the digital literacy of Cameroonian students and youth, aligning with efforts to combat online hate speech and promote a culture of cybersecurity. Minister Minette Libom li Likeng stated that the initiative forms part of the National Campaign for the Promotion of Cybersecurity Culture and Awareness of the Responsible Use of Social Networks, instituted by the President of the Republic. She emphasised that the government is promoting responsible cyber citizenship through a national policy on network and information system security. Addressing the audience, Minister Libom li Likeng stressed that citizens, particularly students, must play a role in creating a safe online environment by navigating responsibly and respecting others' rights.
