National Episcopal Conference : Bishops Conclude 49th Annual Conclave In Kumba

The weeklong get-together ended on Saturday, January 10, 2026 with calls to denounce violence and promote peace.
The 49th annual seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon has ended at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Fiango, in the Diocese of Kumba. The Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt in his homily, centered on unity, love, and peace. Conveying Episcopal blessings from the Holy Father, Pope Francis, the Apostolic Nuncio expressed profound gratitude to the Diocese of Kumba for its hospitality, and particularly praised His Lordship Bishop Agapitus Nfon, Local Ordinary of Kumba, for successfully hosting the seminar.
Reflecting on the theme of the conference, ‘communion and collegiality’ the Nuncio emphasized that they are at the heart of the mission of evangelization. He reminded the faithful that if God does not build a house, the laborers labor in vain, calling on bishops and Christians to remain united in Christ’s mission. Archbishop Bettencourt challenged Christians to be credible witnesses of the Gospel by rejecting violence and embracing peace, justice, and reconciliation.
