Children, Climate Shocks : UNICEF, TİKA Commit To Assure Protection, Resilience

The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, TİKA have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding, MOU to bolster child rights and youth engagement in Cameroon. The two-year partnership, signed on January 20, 2026 in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, seeks to combine expertise and networks to support vulnerable children. Particularly in regions facing humanitarian crises and climate shocks.
Central to the agreement is the strengthening of the U-Report/U-Responders initiative. The protocol outlines concrete actions, including training young "U-Reporters" in disaster management, child rights, and First Aid (CPR, hemorrhage control). Additionally, the partnership will provide environmental protection equipment like shovels, wheelbarrows, and First Aid kits - empowering youth to act as agents of change in their communities.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to placing children and young people at the centre of solutions to humanitarian, climate, and social crises,” said Nadine Perrault, UNICEF Representative in Cameroon. She emphasized that supporting youth engagement is an investment in a more resilient future.
