Buea erupted with colour, music, and excitement as visitors, athletes, and local businesses turned the annual race into a festival

The 31st edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope on Saturday, February 21, 2026, transformed Buea into a vibrant celebration of sports, culture, and community. Under this year’s theme, “Let us Give Peace a Chance,” the town buzzed with visitors from across Cameroon and beyond, bringing energy, laughter, and festivity to every street corner. As early as 6 a.m., spectators lined the streets from the Molyko Omnisports Stadium to Upper Farms, waving flags and cheering as athletes began their gruelling climb. Children darted between vendors selling snacks, drinks, and souvenirs, while the aroma of sizzling food filled the air. Hotels and restaurants reported packed rooms, and taxi drivers hustled to ferry excited crowds to every vantage point. For many, the race was more than sports; it was an experience. Alain Noumbisi, visiting from Douala, said, “I have watched this on television before, but nothing prepares you for the energy here.
