Menji Town Hall Session: Water, Improved Roads Dominate Consultations

Atown hall meeting at the Menji Women’s Empowerment Centre summoned by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the South West on Thursday, February 26, 2026, permitted inhabitants of Menji municipality to know the state of project executions in their area. The locals lamented about the absence of portable water in Menji Municipality and demanded to know how FCFA 100 million was spent on water project. Also, they complained about poor state of farm-to-market roads, awards of contracts among others. The issue of government Technical High School Fontem to return to their campus where they have all their workshops equally came up. The Mayor of Menji, Nkemasong Nicasius, explained that upon the execution of the water contract there was water flowing in Menji. But that the feasibility studies were poorly done as the catchment is drying off leading to inconsistent water flow in Menji. He indicated that the catchment will have to be extended and two other sources added to capture more water. For the roads, he pointed to several farm-to-market roads the council has developed and pledged to continue in that direction. The procedures for the awarding of contracts were also explained. The Senior Divisional Officer for Lebialem, Fabian Ambang Kah, called on the population to engage in community labour so as to improve their roads.
