The campaign that was launched on April 29, 2026 lasted for one week.
As part of activities marking World Press Freedom Day 2026, the Cameroon Association of English- Speaking Journalists- CAMASEJ Douala in partnership with the Acha Hospital Douala, successfully launched a free health screening campaign for journalists on April 29 in Douala. Journalists from both French and Englishspeaking media outlets turned out in numbers to benefit from the initiative, described as a key event in the week of activities commemorating World Press Freedom Day 2026. During the first day of screening, participating journalists underwent eye examinations, general body assessments, and checks on other vital health indicators. CAMASEJ Douala chapter president, Maurine Ndi, emphasized the campaign’s central message “health is wealth”. Speaking on the significance of the event, Maurine Ndi noted that journalism is often characterized by tight deadlines, constant pressure, and demanding mobility, factors that can affect workers’ wellbeing.
