The Minister of Secondary Education held a press conference in Yaounde on June 8, 2026 to address the two-week postponement of remaining GCE exam papers.
The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, on Monday June 8, 2026 in Yaounde held a high-stakes press conference to defend the government’s sudden decision to postpone the remaining written papers of the 2026 General Certificate of Education, GCE exams by two weeks.
Two-week Exam Postponement Restated
The Minister confirmed that all remaining exams originally scheduled between June 8, 2026 and June 18,2026 have been pushed back to run from June 22, 2026 to July 2, 2026. Following a massive security breach wherein confidential questions and answers were leaked on social media. However, Technical and Vocational Education Examinations, TVEE exams remain unaffected and will proceed as planned.
Internal GCE Board Betrayal
Addressing allegations circulating online that the leak was a coordinated external attempt by Francophones to undermine the Anglophone system, the Minister fiercely rejected any form of "warmongering" or scapegoating. She firmly put the blame on internal systemic failures and corruption within the Anglo-Saxon educational community itself.
Lyonga emphasized that the leaks were an internal betrayal, noting that the GCE questions were leaked through institutions like "Press Print" and handled by individuals directly involved with the GCE Board, rather than external entities.
Access To Questions One Week Before!
The extraordinary intervention follows an investigation where Minister Lyonga personally verified that candidates had access to exam scripts up to a week prior to sitting them. Speaking to members of the press, the Minister stated that staying silent or waiting for the session to finish would make the state look "stupid" and destroy the hard-earned credibility of the Anglophone subsection of education. All hard and soft-copy evidence collected from the leak centers has been officially handed over to the police for forensic investigation, she disclosed.
Couldn’t Wait For Till The End
"When you have an exam which is all over in the hands of the candidates before the exam is written... Tell me what kind of exam is that that you are examining? What is that? Don’t you look stupid? I mean, would you say that you would cover it up and wait until the exam is finished?" Minister Lyonga questioned.
Beware Of Fake Press Releases!
Prof. Lyonga also cautioned the public against a surge of fake press releases designed by "hawkers" to cause nationwide panic. She clarified that her ministry issued exactly one authentic press release on June 6, 2026. And that any subsequent documents circulating on social media are completely falsified.
Despite the psychological destabilization the sudden delay may cause to thousands of students, the Minister urged school administrators and teachers across Cameroon to "grab their students" and keep them calm. Reframing the postponement as a routine challenge that school systems must absorb.
War Against Monetized Exam Leaks
Looking toward the future, the Minister declared war on the "monetized market" of digital exam leaks, revealing that this crisis highlights the absolute necessity to completely modernize and digitalize the Cameroon GCE Board.
No Tolerance For Lagging Behind!
Noting that MINESEC is already a leading ministry in digitalization, Lyonga asserted that she will not tolerate an examination board that lags behind technologically, paving the way for systemic reforms once the police investigation concludes.
Couldn’t Wait For The End
"When you have an exam which ...
