Bridges Across The Atlantic: Canada Cameroon Diaspora Mobilizes For Investments Back Home

Ousmanou Sehou, the Provincial Delegate of Quebec, Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce is in Cameroon on the sidelines of the Promote trade fair. His Horizon Cameroun's strategy spans eight core priority sectors.

In a major push to transform international migration dynamics into domestic economic growth, the diaspora mobilization platform Horizon Cameroun has announced a series of structural development projects, highlighted by a planned $520,000 professional Artificial Intelligence (AI) training and immersion center.

Sidelines Of Promote Fair
Announced on the sidelines of the Promote Trade Fair on Sunday, June 13, 2026, the initiatives aim to facilitate direct skills and technology transfer from Canada to Cameroon. Providing high-quality, lower-cost tech education to stem the traditional "brain drain" and foster transnational entrepreneurship.

Eight-core Priority Sectors
The comprehensive roadmap was presented by Ousmanou Sehou, an entrepreneur, development advocate, and Provincial Delegate (Quebec) of the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce. Operating through an apolitical lens, Horizon Cameroon's strategy spans eight core priority sectors designed to address Cameroon's most pressing institutional and infrastructural needs.
Beyond the marquee AI center - which will also act as a data collection hub to resolve Africa's chronic data deficiencies - the initiative is rolling out projects in:

Digital Health and Telemedicine: Connecting remote or sick Cameroonians with international healthcare professionals for advice and consultations right from their homes.
Intelligent Neighborhoods: Constructing smart quarters equipped with modern utilities. Sehou, leveraging his real estate experience in Dubai and Senegal, noted this will cater to the high volume of Canada-based Cameroonians building retirement homes back home.
Agric-Tech: Establishing standardized inspection and technological frameworks so Cameroonian farmers can export fresh fruits and vegetables to meet Canada's winter-induced food import demands.
Electromobility: Sensitizing decision-makers and training a new generation of local engineers to manage and maintain electric vehicle infrastructure.
Entrepreneurship, The Circular Economy: Creating business toolkits to fast-track business plans for youth and women, while transforming local refuse dumps into value-chain processing hubs.

Upstream Alignment
To ensure these initiatives transition seamlessly from concepts into binding contracts, Horizon Cameroon is actively engaging in upstream alignment. Sehou revealed that partnerships are already underway, including a double-diploma administration programme between Laval University in Canada and the University of Douala. Furthermore, Canadian and Cameroonian engineering firms are collaborating on climate-resilient civil engineering projects, such as building homes that eliminate the need for air conditioning.

Highest Levels Of Political Guarantees
To shield foreign capital from systemic bureaucratic blockages, leadership confirmed they are working directly with the Cameroonian High Commissioner to Canada. And local authorities to secure the highest levels of political guarantees. This proactive consulting is intended to minimize bottlenecks and ensure international investors feel secure relocating capital.

Giving Back To Cameroon
The Yaoundé press briefing was organized in tandem with the African Media Network for the Promotion of Health and the Environment (Rémapsen). And Samuel Ervé Mandeng's "Give Back to Mama" movement. Mandeng, who also founded the Cameroon Star Boost awards in 2020, emphasized that Canada currently yields expansive growth opportunities for diaspo-talents compared to traditional European markets.

Specialized AI Event
Following local workshops on June 18, 2026, including specialized AI events at the School of Posts and Telecommunications, Yaounde, the movement is slated to host a massive international gathering on...
