Cameroon-United Kingdom: Talks On Climate Change

Strengthening bilateral relations between Cameroon and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, especially in the fight against climate change through the protection of the Congo Basin and growing parliamentary exchanges came under review at the National Assembly. This was during an audience the House Speaker, Theodore Datouo granted the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Matt Woods on June 15, 2026. In his statement to the press, the British Head of Mission said the audience was a great opportunity to talk about the UK-Cameroon bilateral relationship in various areas of cooperation. “I think that we had quite a coincidence of views. Not only is it important to talk about the historic and symbolic nature of the bilateral relationship but it is really important to make sure that we are talking about how we can advance and deepen that relationship, create jobs and growth in both of our countries,” the High Commissioner said. Giving additional details, Matt Woods said, they shared views on the fight against climate change and the protection of the Congo forest basin where both parties absolutely agreed that there is need to collaborate in making sure that people who live in and around the forest areas have alternatives means of livelihood as a measure to avoid the cutting down of trees.
