Combating Cyber Insecurity: Cameroon-South Korea Share Best Practices

This was during a bilateral digital forensics and cyber security forum held on June 24, 2026 in Yaounde.
“Cameroon is facing a sharp rise in cybercrime, leaving local law enforcement officers scrambling to keep pace with increasingly sophisticated digital syndicates.” This was revealed by Chief Police Commissioner at the General Delegation for National Security (DGSN), Frida Ngo’oh Tanto, during the Korea-Cameroon Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Forum held in Yaounde on June 24, 2026. According to her, Cameroon's Judicial Police Headquarters registered 252 formal cybercrime complaints in 2025. Alarmingly, 127 cases were resolved leaving nearly half of those cases remaining unsolved. Conferring Frida Ngo'oh Tanto, the local landscape is heavily dominated by aggressive financial scams, "online loan scams, fake investment scams, attacks on information systems, electronic money theft, and mobile money fraud are rampant”. She further revealed a widely observed tactic where local call-box operators and users alike are targeted with deceptive, simulated withdrawal notifications. Other digital offenses include SIM-swap fraud, digital identity theft, online blackmail and sextortion. The forum organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cameroon recommended a collaborative relationship between the Korean and Cameroonian intelligence police unit and the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC). According to the Korean Ambassador in Cameroon, H.E Nam Kiwook, the session comes at a time when both countries are battling with a surge in cybercrime with Korea’s track record of 1,349 reported cyber incidents...
