North West: Safety Of Journalists Prioritized

Bamenda (Mezam)- The safety of journalists in the North West Region was topical during a workshop organised on May 27, 2026 in Bamenda. The Media Plus seminar implemented by the International Federation of Journalists in partnership with the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union (CJTU), successfully trained 14 Journalists in the region on their safety. Coming at a time when the region and journalists continue to face challenges as they carry on their duties due to the ongoing security crisis, participants revealed that the workshop was timely. Many of them have been kidnapped, arrested or even killed in the region hence it was an opportunity for these selected journalists to gain practical skills on ensuring their safety as they carry on their duties. The Project Coordinator, Yannick Bezang said the training was designed to equip Journalists with practical tools to improve their safety during field coverages. "We are here in Bamenda for the launch of a series of regional trainings on the safety of media professionals" Bezang stated. He added that in the days ahead, more trainings will be carried out before the end of the programme following the strong interest demonstrated by the journalists.
