HIMO Project: Mayors, SGs Schooled On Management

A three-day workshop organised by the International Labour Organization instructed local governement officials on High Labour Intensive approach on road construction

 

A three-day workshop organised in Kumba by the International Labour Organization (I.L.O) has brought together some local Council Authorities and Decentralized Administrators from the South West Region. The workshop took place from 10 through 12 April, 2017, under the theme, “Community Work Supervision and Management of HIMO road contracts.”
  Opening the seminar, the Director of the International Labour Organization based in Kumba, Simon Toum, disclosed that the training workshop would pave the way for decent work as a reality for those working within the framework of the Kumba – Mamfe road project.
 Mr. Toum Simon revealed that, I.L.O. had organized the seminar with collaboration from the African Development Bank, ADB, Central African States Development Bank, CASDB, and the Republic of Cameroon to ensure that local Councils supervise and manage the High labour Intensive Approach (HIMO) on road projects within their various municipalities.  As beneficiaries, Councils along the Kumba – Mamfe road, such as Tinto, Nguti, Konye and Kumba III Councils amongst others were given tools to effectively carry out the Labour Intensive Approach (LIA), in their different Council areas.  The tools included wheel Barrows, diggers, hoes, cutlasses and work helmets, rain boats and light-reflector wears.
