Below is a government statement from the Minister of Communication.
“In June 2026, an individual headed to the premises of the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) in Yaounde and handed over a sealed envelope containing an alleged presidential decree appointing a Vice-President of the Republic. This document, which appeared to bear the official seals of the Presidency of the Republic, as well as a signature attributed to the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya, did not, however, elude the vigilance of CRTV officials, who did not broadcast it on any of their channels. In response to this situation, which has been making headlines for some time now, and giving rise to all sorts of speculation among the public, the Government of the Republic hereby makes it clear that the broadcast of official documents in our country, notably decrees, orders, appointments, ordinances and legal notices issued by the Prime Minister, ministers or any other authority competent to sign them, is governed by strict and regulated procedures to ensure their reliability, credibility and opposability against third parties. Furthermore, when such documents are issued by the President of the Republic, the Head of State, their publication goes through an official, codified and centralised process within the services of the Presidency of the Republic. As a matter of fact, when it comes to a presidential decree of such importance, to appoint a Vice-President of the Republic of Cameroon, it should be clear that all necessary precautions would be taken; where appropriate, to render it public through official channels.
