Promoting Culture: Platform Set To Nurture Talents

T he second edition of the “Muntu” Challenge Festival has been launched with orga­ nisers unveiling an expanded pro­ gramme designed to identify, train and promote young talents across Cameroon. The initiative was pre­ sented during a press conference in Douala on July 17. According to the project's coordina­ tor, Princess Essaka Ekwalla Kate, unlike the inaugural edition, the 2026 Muntu Challenge goes beyond a one-night contest to be­ come a structured programme com­ bining talent identification, capacity building, mentorship and cultural promotion. Princess Essaka Ekwalla Kate added that the objective is to establish a sustainable platform that prepares young artists for pro­ fessional careers while contributing to the promotion of Cameroon's rich cultural heritage. Derived from the Bantu word Muntu, meaning "Man", the festival seeks to place humanity, creativity and community at the centre of ar­ tistic expression. The competition is open to talents in four disciplines: acting, dance, singing and cuisine, with the latter returning to show­ case the country's culinary heritage and cultural identity.
