National Civic Service: Cameroon Graduates Largest Cohort Of 1,500 Youth Volunteers

In a milestone for youth engagement and nation-building, 1,500 young volunteers graduated from Cameroon’s National Civic Service for Participation in Development on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Official ceremonies were held simultaneously across all 10 administrative regions of the country, marking the successful completion of an intensive, multi-week civic and leadership training programme.

The cohort represents the largest group mobilized in a single edition since the National Civic Service Agency was established, surpassing all previous mobilization records since 2014.

Rigorous Mobilization

Launched in mid-July, the 2026 programme brought together young Cameroonians from diverse socio-economic backgrounds across all 10 regions. Participants were selected by regional commissions chaired by their respective regional governors. Based on criteria set by government decree - including Cameroonian citizenship, age compliance (17 to 21 years old), and physical fitness.

Multidisciplinary Training

To accommodate the record turnout, regional training centers - including the primary facility in Nanga-Eboko in the Centre Region - were equipped with housing, catering, healthcare, security, and sports infrastructure. Medical teams conducted health check-ups before the start of physical and educational activities.

"I want to learn to live better with others, to have clear reference points. Here, I feel I can become useful to society," said Lydie Ndongo, a 19-year-old participant from the Centre Region, on her arrival at the training camp.

Under the leadership of Agency Director General Taossi, the curriculum delivered a balanced combination of civic education, leadership training, environmental stewardship, and physical discipline. Training was delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising civilian instructors, military personnel, subject matter experts, and community leaders.

Programme Scope

The completion of this latest training session underscores the significant scale of the initiative. By reaching all 10 administrative regions of Cameroon, the 2026 edition mobilized a target age demographic of youth between 17 and 21 years old. With this record-breaking cohort of 1,500 recruits, the Agency has now successfully trained more than 15,500 young volunteers since operations began in 2014. Thereby reaffirming its commitment to leadership, patriotic values, and community service.

Youth Challenges

The graduation comes at a crucial period when Cameroonian youth face socio-economic challenges, including persistent job insecurity and shifting social reference points.
