Instagram, Tik- Tok and YouTube provide a constant influx of images, videos and influencer content that pro­ mote beauty standards. Most of these platforms are also filled with images that offer an unattainable vision of what a body or face should look like, further normalising plastic surgery as something ne­ cessary in order for people to achieve this ideal. This endless exposure has also resulted in “sel­ fie dysmorphia,” where some peo­ ple are more vigilant about certain aspects of their appearance they feel insecure about. This is the case, particularly among young people raised in an online world. The transformation of a celebrity or influencer, before and after, has inspired others to get the same done. When people see the image of certain artistes on TV and social media, all they want is that kind of a figure eight-shaped body. Plastic surgery has become more visible, relatable, and acceptable to the entire world thanks to social media. Fashion A lot of young people now work in modelling and the sale of clothes, shoes and other outfits. To remain in the business and become inva­ luable they go in for those imagi­ nary body shapes so that the clothes they wear fit and sell bet­ ter. These girls literally transform their bodies to better market their brand. Peer pressure has also cau­ sed others to go in for plastic sur­ gery to better fit in their entourage.
