Diplomacy: New Swedish Ambassador Assumes Duty

T he Ambassador designate of the Kingdom of Sweden to Cameroon, with residence in Abuja, Anna Westerholm, has handed the advance copies of her letters of credence to the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella, during an audience the latter granted the for­ mer at the Ministry of External Re­ lations, yesterday September 15, 2026. As non-resident Ambassador, she will therefore coordinate the activities of bilateral relations bet­ ween her country and Cameroon from Abuja with regular working vi­ sits here. Prior to her designation as Head of Mission in August 2025, with resi­ dence in Abuja, Nigeria, Anna Wes­ terholm served as Director of the Department for Security Policy, Euro- Atlantic and Security Policy Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden. This position, she held from September 2022 to August 2025 and her primary responsibility was overseeing the European Union’s neighbourhood policy for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. For six years (May 2016 to September 2022), the Swedish national who was born in 1967 ser­ ved as Ambassador for the European Union Eastern Partnership at the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Ministry of Foreign Af­ fairs of Sweden.
