Water Scarcity: Hits Major Neighbourhoods

R esidents of Ndogbong neighbourhood in the Douala V sub division, Log­ baba in Douala III and other neigh­ bourhoods have raised alarm over worsening water scarcity. Many families have gone for months without access to portable water, forcing them to rely on unsafe and costly alternatives that are difficult to obtain especially for households with limited income. Most people search for water sources including boreholes within the neighbourhoods “This is not something we can continue to en­ dure, I have five children including other family members and each day we go out looking for water. I buy at least 20 litters which cost CFA 2100 for drinking daily be­ cause we can’t drink the water from the borehole. This is draining me already”, said Mr Geoffrey Bo­ sese a resident in Ndogbong. “We wake up every day hoping water will finally come, but it never does. Our children suffer, and we are unable to live normal lives”, he la­ mented. With water unavailable for months, residents say they have been una­ ble to properly carry out essential daily activities such as washing, cooking, bathing, and cleaning homes.
