Stakeholders Learn Commonwealth Values
T he British High Commis sion in Cameroon, in part nership with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC), yesterday September 29, 2026 organised the second edition of the Commonwealth values capacity strengthening workshop programme on the fight against corruption. Par ticipants were heads of anti- corruption units from public institutions across the country and the event was co-chaired by the British High Commis sioner to Cameroon, Matt Woods and the Vice Chairman of CONAC, Prof François Anou kaha. To the British High Commis sioner, it is not a lesson-giving encounter, but rather an ex perience sharing platform on the best practices to tackle the cankerworm. To him, cor ruption negatively affects any economy, and thus the phe nomenon has to be adequately addressed to promote inclusive development as stated by Commonwealth core principles. To this effect, practical ap proaches to promoting good governance, integrity and ac countability. This was corroborated by the Vice Chairman of CONAC, who stated that building capacities in Commonwealth values such as good governance, defined through specific core pillars like accountability, transpa rency, responsiveness, equi tableness, efficiency and ef fectiveness, is indirectly gran ting participants tools to en sure that public institutions conduct public affairs and ma nage public resources ethically and efficiently. “The training, therefore, ties with Cameroon’s development priorities as sta ted in the National Develop ment Strategy 2020-2030 and will help to foster the imple mentation of Cameroon’s Na tional Anti-Corruption Strategy that calls for an all-inclusive fight against the cankerworm, with all stakeholders brought on board.
