Promotion du bilinguisme et du multiculturalisme: ils expriment leurs attentes

Nkeng Michael: “Learn From Others’ Experiences”

Mayor of Muyuka

“My expectations are like that of any loving Cameroonian for the commission to succeed. But again, as it has always been my cry, we cannot succeed as a nation when all of us don’t see the need of moving the country forward.  In order for us to succeed, there must be some degree of honesty, trust and love among Cameroonians. I think all of us can see a country like Canada succeed despite the fact that they have the English speaking population which is the majority and the minority French population. If you go to Canada, you will see that all official documents, bill boards etc are in English and French”.

Gilbert Malung: “Meet The Needs of All Cameroonians”

Bamenda inhabitant

“I expect the commission to be given the latitude to be able to do its job very well. Am sure this commission was created with specific objectives as a result I expect it to work towards attaining its objectives. The Anglophone problem that is presently rocking the country should be its top priority. We expect the commission to look into ministries and other services to ensure that bilingualism is effective. The commission should not have any political leaning and should be void of any strings. It should be financially viable. It should be able to answer the preoccupation of sons and daughters of Cameroon”.

Chief Kombe Richard: “Go Closer To The People”

Paramount Ruler of Mondoni

“As a traditionalist and as an Anglophone, I am expecting this commission to put in a lot so that we find a lasting solution to some of the problems the Anglophones are facing. It might not be able to resolve all the problems but at least a head way which can calm down the situation and change the minds of the people. For those who are involved in the commission, we have confidence in them and I think they can deliver the goods. I prescribe consultation to the Multiculturalism and Bilingual Commission”.

Odette Ngatchou: “Employ Youths at Every Level”

Secretary

“Setting up the commission is laudable; creating many more centres in the regions is effective in promoting the bilingual culture. Youths are the future of the country, and so we want a bilingual Cameroon tomorrow. So, youths should, nevertheless, be employed at every level. The commission should be able to create innovative programmes or activities to instruct the public, to train and to create opportunities to work. The goal of the structure should not fall below being able to work harder to get Cameroonians become interested in speaking, writing and reading the two languages either as a working experience or in practice. This should be done so that every Cameroonian is wholly bilingual.”

Ilyn Felah:  “Work Within The Ambits of the Law”

Bamenda inhabitant

“Firstly, the creation of the commission was a good idea and I expect it to work within the ambits of the law.  They have an outline of activities, I think if it is respected it will solve a lot of problems in the country.  I wish that they get to work immediately and perform their duties and responsibilities perfectly. I expect some of the committee members who are not bilingual to go and learn the other language and get Bilingual, as this will permit them to understand so many things. Finally, they should be given a free hand to work.

Giscard Ndassi:  “Work For Balanced Development”

Customs Broker

“I am happy that the Head of State has come to resolve the Anglophone crisis by setting up the commission as a measure of equilibrium in the two sections of the country. My view is that the institution should work within the a...
