Health Infrastructure: China To Construct Two Mother and Child Hospitals

The new Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospitals will be sited in Mbalmayo in the Centre and Guider in the North Regions.

 

Healthcare delivery in Cameroon will soon receive fillip with the construction of two Category 1 Mother and Child Hospitals or Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospitals worth about 30 Billion FCFA. The announcement was made on May 9, 2017, in the Chinese capital, Beijing, at a press briefing for African journalists by Dr Yong Feng, Deputy Director General for International Cooperation in the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

Dr Yong said the high grade medical facilities will be sited in Mbalmayo in the Centre Region and Guider in the North Region – both localities where Chinese medical teams have been working since their arrival in the country in 1975. Dr Yong said the Chinese Embassy in Cameroon was awaiting the green light from the Ministry of Public Health for construction to begin. The two new hospitals come after the Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital, Ngousso, also built and equipped by the Chinese government. It was commissioned on March 28, 2002 by President Paul Biya.

Then followed the Douala Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital, another gift from China, which was inaugurated on November 17, 2015 by Prime Minister Philemon Yang.
