National Unity: National Assembly Congratulates Mobilisation

House Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril expressed the happiness of the House as he chaired the opening plenary sitting of the  June ordinary session on  Thursday

 

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril on behalf of the House has congratulated Cameroonians on their  commitment to national unity, integration, living together  demonstrated through their mature, massive and exceptional mobilisation and participation in the 45th edition of National Day celebrations on May 20, 2017 despite calls for boycott.
He spoke at the Ngoa-Ekelle National Assembly Glass Palace on June 8, 2017 as he chaired the opening plenary sitting of the  June ordinary session of the National Assembly for the 2017 legislative year. Present at the plenary sitting were the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji, cabinet ministers led by  Prime Minister  Philemon Yang, the Chief  Justice of the Supreme  Court, among other  State and diplomatic officials. He said the National Day event was the moment for Cameroon’s  unitary and decentralised State to be exhorted, stating that the celebration was a great success. He congratulated  the courageous position of the  traditional rulers of the North West who on May 5, 2017 in Bamenda  declared, «We reaffirm our commitment  to a one and indivisible, bilingual  and multicultural Cameroon.»
Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril reiterated his previous calls for dialogue in tackling differences. He lauded  patriotic Cameroonians who engaged in dialogue  during the heat of claims by lawyers and teachers’ trade unions in the North West and South West Regions that spiralled into upheavals. He cited fruits of the dialogue to include the creation of the National Commission  for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism,  freeing of many people arrested in connection to the crisis, creation of Common Law Sections in the Supreme Court and ENAM, making available the official versions of OHADA Law  and Penal Code in English, among other  advances. He congralutated the members of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism and urged them to put in place required mechanisms  to foster the promotion of the culture of harmonious living together. He considers the culture as a determining factor in the consolidation of national unity  and the country’s quest for emergence.
Concerning  education, he lauded stakeholders  as through their efforts, end-of-course examinations for the 2016/2017 academic year are already taking place. This comes  despite, the ploy by some people to make the school year black in the North West and South West Regions. He  recommended vigilance throughout the examination period. He also used the occasion to call for reinforced surveillance in school campuses, universities and  student residential areas. Hon. Cavaye also expressed the compassion of the House in relation to the death of the Bishop of Bafia, Jean Marie Benoît Bala.
