Land Cooperation Agreement: Foreign Affairs Committee Adopts Bill

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate examined the bill on June 19, 2017

Senators will in the coming days adopt in a plenary sitting, the bill to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the technical cooperation agreement on land matters between the government of the Republic of Cameroon and the government of the Tunisian Republic, signed in Tunis on 24 March 2017. After it was tabled in a plenary sitting on June 19, 2017,  the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee  on the same day examined and adopted the bill that was forwarded to the Senate by the Speaker of the National Assembly after its adoption in the lower House of Parliament.
The Minister of Land Tenure, Survey and State Property, Jacqueline Koung à Bessike defended the bill in the Foreign Affairs Committee. She was assisted by the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum. The agreement institutes technical cooperation on land matters between Cameroon and Tunisia with a view of providing assistance and supporting mutually their efforts to develop and modernize their land activities. This has to be done through three cooperation areas that include technical assistance, training of executive officers and execution of projects.
Technical cooperation, according to the government, consists of the exchange  or provision of experts, exchange of good practices or all other appropriate scientific or technical means. Training executive officers, the bill states, shall take place in professional training or university institutions of Cameroon and Tunisia. Concerning the execution of the projects, the bill specifies that each party within the limits of its means, undertakes to make available to the requesting party the experts, consultants and documents it needs.
On the benefits of the agreement to Cameroon, government states that it will enable the country to benefit from Tunisia’s experience in rational and optimal land management.
