Women Empowerment : Project To Finance 1,000 Women Launched

 UN Women Cameroon and Coca-Cola Company are poised to economically empower five million women entrepreneurs by 2020

The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Therese Abena Ondoa née Obama last Tuesday June 20, 2017, in Yaounde, launched a project dubbed 5 by 20 to empower women. Its objective is to assist over five million women entrepreneurs by 2020 in carrying out income-generating activities with the support of the Coca-Cola Company worldwide. The project is implemented in the country by the UN Women and the Coca-Cola Company, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family.
While launching the pilot phase of the project in Cameroon, which envisages the training of 1,000 women from the cities of Yaounde, Douala and Edea, Marie Therese Abena in the presence of UN Women and Coca-Cola Company officials, said the assistance specifically targets women and young girls involved in the management of income generating activities, access to training, financial and non-financial services, access to business and life skills training as well as mentor and business networks. The laudable initiative which will enable women to be informed and trained on creating and managing sustainable micro-enterprises, Minister Marie Therese Abena Ondoa said, falls within her ministry’s national strategy for 2013-2017 formulated alongside with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality (UN Women). “5 by 20” project focuses on the economic empowerment of women which ensures that women contribute to the growth of Cameroon.
