National Development: Cameroon’s Diaspora on Board

 The Forum of Cameroon’s Diaspora  will hold in Yaounde from June 28- 30, 2017

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella in the presence of the his colleague of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary set the ball rolling for the first edition of the Forum of the Diaspora (FODIAS 2017) during a press briefing in Yaounde on June 22, 2017. The forum to hold on the theme, “Cameroon and its Diaspora: Acting together for the development of the nation,” will take place from June 28 to June 30, 2017 at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
Mr Mbella Mbella said the overall mission of the 2017 Diaspora Forum is “to present government’s initiatives in favour of its Diaspora, increase awareness of the Diaspora and ensure the visibility of its actions in favour of Cameroon’s development”. The forum also aims to set up a “platform for communication and exchanges, in order to improve the conditions for an inclusive dialogue that would make it possible to capitalize the assets for this specific component of the nation with a view to the development of the country,” he added. At the end of the forum, a committee is expected to be created to monitor and evaluate the implementation of projects, a framework for permanent dialogue between the government and the Diaspora, a database of all skills in all possible fields of Cameroonians abroad and finally, there is expected to be a greater involvement of the Diaspora in local development.
The Yaounde forum will serve as occasion for the authorities and members of the Diaspora to put in place concrete actions to give substance to the reflections.
