SIC Housing: Available For Better Accommodation

The corporation continues its march towards providing modern housing to Cameroonians

 

Cameroon's urban statistics are an indication of the need to address one of the difficult issues affecting the country; housing. The fast growing urban population in Cameroon is in dire need of housing as demand largely supersedes supply. Founded in October 1952, the Cameroon Real Estate Corporation (Société Immobilière du Cameroun, or SIC), is still implementing the housing policy defined by the Government.
In this regards, SIC has been designing garden cities while focusing its activity on social housing for all Cameroonians. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, SIC is waxing strong and greatly involved in building low cost residential houses for Cameroonians in all the ten regions of the country.  SIC is said to have set as target to build 100,000 homes by 2022. So far some 30,000 quality houses have been built across the national territory with affordable rents, in the towns of Yaounde, Douala, Ebolowa, Bertoua, Garoua, Maroua, Buea, Limbe and Edea.  SIC is one of the oldest citizen-friendly housing corporations in Cameroon.  A personal solution for accommodation problems for bachelor, married (with or without children), widower or divorcee as well as craftsman, those in liberal professions, business persons, wage-earner and civil servants amongst others.
With an annual population growth rate of 2.6 per cent, and an annual urbanisation rate of 3.5 per cent, the issue of housing remains a major problem in Cameroon.
