Presidential Election : Senate Cautions On Partisan Politics

This is contained in the closing speech of the Senior Vice President of the Senate, Aboubakary Abdoulaye at the closing plenary for the June session on July 9, 2025.
As Cameroon prepares for the October 2025 Presidential election, the Senate Senior Vice President, Aboubakary Abdoulaye while chairing the closing plenary sitting for the June session of Parliament of the House on July 9, 2025, has cautioned Cameroonians against partisan politics during the electoral operations. To him, elections, in a democratic State like Cameroon, are not won ahead of time. “That is why, calling on all our compatriots especially women, youth, all minorities and the undecided, I say to them not to allow themselves to be distracted by partisan politics and vain illusions which, in the absence of a political offer worthy of the name, do not show the way to our county’s future,” he stated.
The legislator in his closing speech also launched a republican and solemn appeal to all aspiring candidates of the Presidential election to offer the Cameroonian people a peaceful electoral process, especially during the campaigns, with a view of building a stable, united, prosperous and democratic nation. He made allusions to the declaration of President Paul Biya on November 3, 1992 in which he is quoted to have said, “Above all, we must learn to listen to others, to accept or refute their points of view without succeumbing to violence and hatred. It is a collective effort.” Senator Aboubakary Abdoulaye thus called on stakeholders of the electoral process notably aspiring candidates, representatives of political parties, and members of the civil society organisations, as well as citizens to always remind themselves with these words of the Head of State.
