SONARA : Prime Minister Inspects Reconstruction Works

The exercise which started on September 15, 2025 is expected to last 24 months.
Ongoing renovation and reconstruction works at the National Oil Refining Company (SONARA) in Limbe has been appreciated by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute. He was at the Refinery on Thursday, October 9, 2025, where he saw for himself the state of affairs. In a tour through the facilities, he was briefed on the various stages of activities and how work is unfolding.
Also, the PM visited the site that got burnt on May 31, 2019, bringing activities to a halt. He confirmed to the press that work has effectively stated. “I am sure that within 24 months or less, SONARA should be back in action as far as its mission is concerned. SONARA is a strategic company whose mission is to produce oil for our market and those of our neigbours. We have been spending a lot of money importing these products. It is important that we get back our sovereignty in terms of energy,” he indicated. The PM regretted that for over six years, it has been impossible for SONARA to meet up with its objective because of the fire incident. He said his visit is reassuring that SONARA will soon be on its feet again.
