Bamenda DDR Centre: Vocational Training Instills Hope

The centre has vital training departments, promotes business, education and social interactions with the neighbouring communities.

The Bamenda Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Centre (DDR) for exfighters of the armed separatist activities in the North West Region located at the outskirt of Bamenda city in Bafut has been transformed into a veritable vocational training, business, educational and socialization centre intended to ease the ex-fighters reintegration into society at the appropriate time. At the moment, the Centre has 698 ex-fighters, its Coordinator, Kum Henry Echu told Cameroon Tribune. He said that, “The centre is faring very well. Presently, most of ex-fighters are involved in the harvesting of beans. I made agriculture mandatory for everybody. The other works are going on fine. The DDR Centre enters the annals of history as a vocational training hub par excellence. Vocational training to give the ex-fighters necessary livelihood skills is grouped in diverse departments that include: Agriculture, Acquaculture and Livestock Production, Trade and Hand Work, Farming in Animal Multiplication and Crop Production as well as Home Economics and Craft.
