T he 2026 FIFA World Cup is over. From June 11 to July 19, 2026, football lovers across the world were trea­ ted to spectacular football. It was an unforgettable 39 days, with 48 teams and 104 games along the way to produce the overall cham­ pion: Spain. The United States of America, Canada and Mexico delive­ red as co-hosts. With the conclusion of the global showpiece, stakeholders are taking stock; assessing the good and the ugly with the objective of making amends for future competitions. As for the good, the event lived up to expectations on the sporting front. Spain emerged as the logical cham­ pion after producing quality play until the last minute. The goals equally made the event spectacu­ lar. A total of 308 goals, with En­ gland and France emerging as the top two teams in terms of goals scored, with 20 each. Kylian Mbappé, who won the Adidas Gol­ den Boot, scored 10 of France’s 20 goals. The packed stadiums also made the show even better, with each fan base turning out in large numbers to push their teams to vic­ tory. The Norwegian row was highly attractive; one of the best fan movements of the tournament. The stars also lived up to expecta­ tions: Rodri and Lamine Yamal of Spain, Lionel Messi of Argentina, Kylian Mbappé of France, Erling Haaland of Norway, Harry Kane of England, Cristiano Ronaldo of Por­ tugal, to name a few.
