Ahead of the first two match days of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Coach David Pagou has released a 26-man squad featuring familiar faces as well as new picks who will blend in to begin the campaign.
K arl Etta Eyong, one of the attackers selected by David Pagou for the first two match days of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qua lifiers, has been ruled out due to in jury. According to information publi shed on September 8, 2026, on the official Facebook page of the Indo mitable Lions, the Levante forward felt pain in his thigh during training with his club on Saturday, September 5, 2026, and scan results conducted on Monday evening indicate that he will be unavailable for six to eight weeks. To fill the gap, David Pagou turned to his reserve list to bring in 24-year-old centre-forward Ivan Cé dric Bikoue Embolo, a player for Ala nyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. The head coach, who announced the 26-man squad during a press conference on September 7, 2026, at the newly constructed headquar ters of the Cameroon Football Fe deration in Warda, Yaounde, evidently does not want to take any chances. Placed in Group G of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Cameroon starts their cam paign against Comoros on match day one in Garoua on September 24, 2026. Five days later, they will play the Republic of the Congo on September 29, 2026, in Brazzaville on match day two. To fully exploit the September/October FIFA window, the Indomitable Lions will also face the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire in a friendly match in Abidjan on October 3, 2026. Coach David Pagou’s list for these three matches looks relatively new compared with that of the last Africa Cup of Nations and is susceptible to change the hierarchy in some com partments.
