Emmanuel KENDEMEH | 08-02-2018 05:48

The Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum had separate talks with the Ambassador of Algeria and that of Turkey to Cameroon.

Bilateral relations between Cameroon and Algerian are expected to witness exponential growth this year 2018 following some seven cooperation agreements that may hopefully be signed during the year.

The Ambassador of Algeria to Cameroon, Bedjaoui Merzak made the declaration to the press on February 7, 2018 after a close to one hour thirty minutes discussions with the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations   in charge Relations with the Islamic World Adoum Gargoum.

The Ambassador said the agreements will be in the domains of transport and meteorology (specifically air transport with Algeria planning to open air lines for its planes to fly to Douala and Yaounde). He said the defence agreements was being finalized, as well as three in the judicial sector already finalized and experts are expected to fine-tune them.

The Algeria diplomat said Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations is expected to visit his country during which a political consultation agreement would be signed. The two countries also plan to sign a cooperation agreement linking their international relations institute and share information on de-radicalisation of terrorists and bilingualism.

Minister Adoum Gargoum on February 6, 2018 had another audience with the Ambassador of Turkey to Cameroon, Husnu Murat Ulku. The Turkish diplomat came to solicit Cameroon’s support for his country’s candidacy in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and also solicit government’s facilitation for the proper functioning of Turkey’s schools in Cameroon.

During the talks, the Ambassador said Cameroon and Turkey face similar security and defence problems within their national territories and at their borders. He said during the recent visit of Cameroon’s Defence Minister to Turkey, three defence agreements were signed.

The talks therefore served as an opportunity for Husnu Murat Ulku to reiterate Turkey’s support to Cameroon in all domains and Minister Adoum Gargoum also reassured the Ambassador of Cameroon’s support to his country. Concerning the issue of Turkey’s schools, the Minister said he would forward the matter to the technical ministries.
