Chadian nationals will once more be allowed to enter the US after President Donald Trump imposed a travel ban on the country on September 26, 2017 over terrorism concerns. In a video press conference with journalists in the capital, N'Djaména on March 5, 2018, Acting Assistant Secretary of State Yamamoto Donald described Chad as “an important and valuable counter-terrorism partner in the Sahel.”

President Trump justified his action at the time by the fact that Chad “does not adequately share public-safety and terrorism-related information.” He also cited terrorist elements reportedly active in Chad and in the surrounding region such as Boko Haram, ISIS and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
