After Yaounde, the President of the Great Britain and Ireland Federation is visiting clubs in Douala, Limbe and Kumba.
The visiting President of Soroptimist International for Great Britain and Ireland Federation, Margaret Emsley, has hailed members of Yaounde Club for their humanitarian work. Margaret Emsley, who is on a five-day working visit to all Soroptimist clubs in Cameroon, was speaking at Ladybird Primary School in Tropicana, Yaounde on Wednesday October 26, 2016, during a welcome ceremony in her honour.
She said the purpose of her visit to Cameroon was to see the projects carried out by Soroptimist clubs and also support and encourage them. Some of the projects inspected were the Ladybird Girls’ and Widows’ Clubs, all run by Soroptimist Yaounde Club. Emsley listened to testimonies from some widows on how Soroptimist Yaounde has assisted them to realise their potentials.
The guest also paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and the British High Commissioner to Cameroon. The day ended with a cultural evening marked by a change of insignia and the induction of new members. The baton of command was handed over to Marie Effa to lead Soroptimist Yaounde for two years. She takes over from Ndoh Bertha who was president for 10 years.
Soroptimist International is an association of Soroptimist Federations. It promotes and cooperates with inter-governmental and other organisations to enhance international understanding, goodwill and peace. Margaret Emsley is expected to visit Soroptimist clubs in Douala, Limbe and Kumba, before leaving the country on October 29, 2016.
