Masters Judo Doha 2021 : Vanessa Mballa Atangana Misses Bronze

The current African champion was beaten by Tunisia’s Nihel Cheikh Rouhou in the third place final on Wednesday January 13, 2021.

The World Masters Judo competition took place in Doha from January 11 to 13, 2021. Organised by the International Judo Federation (IJF), the competition brought together judokas from across the globe. Cameroon was represented in the competition by one athlete, Vanessa Mballa Atangana in the women’s +78kg. The current African champion was beaten by Tunisia’s Nihel Cheikh Rouhou in the third place final on Wednesday January 13, 2021. 
It was a 100 per cent African match. With only a few seconds left on the scoreboard, Mballa Atangana tried to score but Cheikh Rouhou avoided the attack and immediately followed to the floor for Ippon. This was a first bronze medal at the Masters for the Tunisian. In the second bronze medal fight turkey’s Kayra Sayit beat Kim Hayun from Korea.  On the final results sheet Vanessa Mballa Atangana finished on the fifth spot with Kim Hayun. Venessa is among the top 18 athletes in the world.
