Fight Against Hate speech: Youths Empowered To Be Ambassadors

Some youths in Douala have gained skills on how to fight against hate speech within the school milieu.
As part of celebrations towards the Youth Day, some cohort 5 fellows of the AFF Cameroon of the #DefyHateNow organisations on Wednesday February 9 embarked on a campaign to sensitise some youths in Douala on the dangers of hate speech and how to go about denouncing hate speech in the school milieu. Hate speech can lead to school dropout and can as well cause low self-esteem and confidence thus leading to the prevention of a young person to attaining their full potentials. Hate speech can also contribute in building a violent person in future.
With all theses in mind, the defyhatenow fellows visited the college Le Renouveau and College Alfred Saker. During their different presentations, the fellows taught the young people on what hate speech is all about and its negative effects on the school and the society at large. The students were also given basic skills to fight against hate speech in the classrooms and the school at large.
According to one of the fellows, Olivier Moukodi Mbamse, it was important to educate the youths because hate speech is eating deep in the society and causing a lot of trouble. To him, some of the young people indulge in promoting hate speech out of ignorance and it was high time they get abreast with the dangers.
