South West Region : Mamfe Diocese Gets New Shepherd

The news of Aloysius Fondong Abangalo appointed Mamfe’s third successive Bishop was broken in the Mamfe Cathedral mid-day yesterday, February 22, 2022 by the Arch-Bishop of Bamenda.

49-year-old Canonist priest, Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, ordained in the Buea Diocese in 2006, has been appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as the new Bishop for the Mamfe Diocese. Until his current appointment, Fondong Abangalo was completing a PhD in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome. He has held various positions of responsibility including a Defender of the Bond at the inter-Diocesan Tribunal of the Bamenda Arch-Diocese of Bamenda after being a Diocesan Treasurer. After his Licentiate from the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaounde, he took up teaching with the Bambui Major Seminary lecturing Canon Law.
His Lordship Fondong will be the third Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe erected on 9 February, 1999 and so cut from Buea Diocese. Bishop Francis Teke Lysinge was pioneer from 9 February, 1999 to 25 January, 2014. The second Bishop was Andrew Nkea Fuanya from 25 January, 2014 to 30 December, 2019. Created as current Arch-Bishop of Bamenda, Andrew was then appointed to serve as Apostolic Administrator of his former Diocese until the appointment of the new Bishop published yesterday, 22 February, 2022. The announcement was made at the Mamfe cathedral mid-day yesterday (22 February, 2022) in the presence of all shades of Christians of the Diocese invited to assemble for the news by 11.30 a.m.
