77thUnited Nations General Assembly: Head of State’s Message Delivered

Speaking yesterday, External Relations Minister Mbella presented efforts made by Cameroon in consolidating peace, democracy and combating climate change.

E xternal Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella has delivered the speech of President Paul Biya at the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York. As representative of the Head of State, he has also assisted in general debates and other sideline events. The Head of State’s speech highlighted measures taken by government to ensure peace and security in the country, especially in conflict-hit regions, promoting democracy in general and fighting against climate change. Various institutional reforms and path covered in the implementation of the recommendations of the Major National Dialogue included other aspects of President Paul Biya’s message to the General Assembly.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Representative of the Head of State also met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. During this audience, the two personalities gave an overview of the major issues on current international affairs and examined the many security, economic and climatic challenges faced by humanity at a crucial moment in its evolution. They mentioned the dense cooperation between Cameroon and the United Nations system which translates into multifaceted assistance, particularly through the United Nations Development Programme with the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North-West and South-West Regions. The Secretary General of the United Nations praised Cameroon's humanitarian policy in welcoming refugees fleeing conflicts in their respective countries, as well as its commitment to the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad region.
