Planned Teacher’s Strike : Meeting With Trade Unionists Adjourned

The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona has issued a statement adjourning the meeting between his ministry and the 15 teachers trade unionists who had signalled to begin a strike action on October 5, 2023 which is International Teachers' Day. In a brief gathering yesterday September 25, 2023 at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Minister said the meeting which was scheduled to begin immediately, could not take place because the majority of the signatories of the strike order were not present. Hence, the meeting was postponed to Thursday September 28, 2023 at 3:30 pm.
Minister Grégoire Owona revealed that many things are being said about the strike action which are not true. The government, he noted, will inform the public not only of the high-level instructions given by the President of the Republic on the problems facing teachers in the country, but also of any questions the public may have on the subject. Before the postponed meeting, the Minister of Labour and Social Security revealed that one week ago, at the Prime Minister's Office and even in the current meeting which was postponed, teachers' unions have shown their determination to break off dialogue. The Minister used the occasion to reiterate the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the determination to improve the living conditions of teachers in the country.
